Fall TV Preview: 8 Network Shows That Actually Excite Us

2.) The Exorcist (Fox)

the-exorcist-fox-imagePremiere: Sept. 23, 8:00 CT

Plot: One-hour thriller based on William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel about a priest who performs exorcisms on demonic spirits.

Why we’re excited: So they’re promoting it as being based on the book? That’s probably a futile attempt to prevent comparisons to the movie. But we’re dying to see how they approach an ongoing story, particularly with Outcast having just concluded on Cinemax. Plus, we saw the pilot at San Diego Comic Con and it was enough to make us want to watch more.

1.) Designated Survivor (ABC)

maxresdefault-46Premiere: Sept. 21, 9:00 CT

Plot: In this one-hour thriller, a low-level Cabinet member becomes President of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession.

Why we’re excited: Kiefer Sutherland is back, not as an ass-kicking CTE agent, but as a mild-mannered Secretary of Agriculture-turned-POTUS. Perfectly timed for one of the most terrifying elections we’ve witnessed, we’re hoping for some wish fulfillment! As a bonus, Kal Penn co-stars as Sutherland’s speechwriter.

Which of these new shows will make the cut? How many will we be mourning their demise next year (or sooner) when they don’t return? Let us know which of these you like or don’t like, and let us know about others that excite you.
