When it comes to animated (and stop-motion) features, British studio Aardman has been churning out great films for decades. They might not always get the attention of Pixar or DreamWorks Animation, but their work is on par with that of those giants. In 2015 they had a big hit with the release of the Shaun The Sheep Movie and now they’re back with a delightful little teaser for the sequel, Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon. Take a look.

If that doesn’t put a smile on your face, I’m not sure what will. The classic Aardman charm is full on display in what could double as a cute little short. That may seem naive slightly, but it almost doesn’t feel like they’re selling a movie, at first. In an age when CGI animation reigns supreme, the stop-motion effects here are a breath of fresh air. Plus, the sheep are adorable, but you already knew that.

Here’s the official synopsis, if the above didn’t give away what shenanigans might be gotten into:

” When an impish and adorable alien with amazing powers crash-lands near Mossy Bottom Farm, Shaun soon sees an opportunity for alien-powered fun and adventure, setting off on a mission to shepherd the intergalactic visitor home before a sinister organization can capture her…can Shaun and the flock avert Farmageddon on Mossy Bottom Farm before it’s too late?”

If you needed another reason to be excited for Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, there’s bold move Aardman made last month. Founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton announced they were moving 75% of the studios shares into a trust that gave the company to its employees. The decision was made in an effort to keep the studio independent, without worry of a big corporate buyout. Something almost unheard of today. It shows the makers of Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run are focused on an commitment to quality, rather than big box office receipts. Though those are probably welcome, as well.

What did you think of the trailer? Were you won over by the cute antics? Are you or your kids big Shaun The Sheep fans? Does the move by Aardman’s founders make you more excited for anything they make in the future? Let us know below, after you enjoy the first poster for the film.  Get ready for when Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon invades theaters on May 15, 2019.
